See if it happens when somebody runs a credit card...  That has happened to us with credit cards but not all of them.
That's happened to us with credit cards before, but we ended up figuring out that it happens from swiping the card before the credit card window opens.  I think that's why it seems that it happens with only some cards.  Since I asked everyone to wait until that window is open, it has never happened again.

We get that message fairly often, but it seems to actually mean that data is being processed - if I wait a moment instead of shutting it down, it always (without fail) continues whatever process I'd asked it to do.  It's exceedingly rare that it ever actually freezes up and stays that way.

One other thing...  Is there any way to toggle to "Hide from Webgen" other than by doing it item by item?

That sounds intriguing!

I had the same situation with trying to thin out that "customers with a balance" list, and there seem to be safeguards in place to keep a person from deleting things on a whim.  But there are a few ways to approach this.

For instance, if it doesn't work by using the "Find Sale" function (which it often doesn't), sometimes it will work if you go into Customer info and the Advanced Payment window, and look up their history.  I don't remember exactly how, but you can get the invoice deleted there.  Sometimes.

My last resort is going into the Manager window, then the Sales window.  Be careful in there, I deleted ALL my sales once!!! (good thing for backup!)  Anyway, that always seems to work, though it's a little more difficult to navigate.

Understand that I did this on my own and not on Ronald's advice - so it may not be recommended.  But it seemed to work.

You know, this reminds me of what I had been doing - creating a transaction where we left it open for some reason (e.g., a layaway or deposit made), and then going back to edit it later to finish the transaction.

I had been doing that for years, with it sometimes working and sometimes not (would get that same error message, and it would never be open in another computer).

Of course the solution was to use the Payment button instead, and it's worked fine ever since.

Vaporphoxxe, you're not trying to edit open transactions for the same reason, are you?

Hey, that makes sense, doesn't it?  It looks like it works, too!

Thanks!

Hey, I got this update with this interesting Web Products report!  I'm just wondering how to indicate in Product Control whether an item is a Web Product or not.  Where do I do that?  Right now it looks like just about everything is a Web Product.

Thanks!

A report would be great.  As the current Inventory "List by Location" lets you choose by Supplier, it would work nicely if it let you choose by Location.

And there would be more than one such Location.  For instance, we have an isolated backup stock of one of our sets of products that has high turnover.

Is there a way to do that?

Can you alphabetize them within the program, in Product Control?  How?

Peter has a good point - there will be data columns that you would've never dreamed of, and you'll only find them by doing an export of at least a small handful of items that you've entered all the info you can for.

I can say that the ONLY time I've not had products appear in the Sales window is when:

a.  the Department (or Menu) field is empty
b.  the Category field is empty, or, as Ronald said,
c.  if one of the no search/no show/discontinued fields under Options in Product Edit are checked

No magical buttons or anything to transfer the data to the Sales window - at least not in the Retail version (and not that I've ever run across).

Another way you can see what should be in your Sales window (though it's probably not diagnostic for anything) is to go into Manager Control/Tools/Arrange Product Buttons.  That's a quick way to see what should be in the Sales windows without leaving Manager Control - and that has ALWAYS appeared the same as the grid in my Sales window.

I'm on v14, and have about 1,000 products in EZP.  I keep my back office version disconnected from the rest of the network so I can do some testing without affecting the "live" version.  And if I want to bring it up to date, I can copy & paste the files from the EZP folder on the "live" computer.

Ronald, does it possibly have to do with the way the .txt file is opened in Excel?  Mine has always appeared with the full list when it opens in Excel - never just a single page of products.

Like I mentioned in my other post, I use the "Import Products (older version)" to bring items into EZP.  Along with that, I use  "Export List" to export items from EZP - it creates a .txt file that I can then open it with Excel.  It results in a single page that can be manipulated the same way as anything else in Excel.

I'm not necessarily recommending it for you (as Ronald mentioned, you can really mess up your Product list in EZP if you import from Excel and don't do it right), but it works well for me.

As a precaution, I always try to make sure to import a file in my back office version of EZP first (before importing it to the "live" version) to see if it messes up anything.  As an example, if you're just one character off on something like a Category, you'll suddenly find a new Category in addition to the old one.  Or you can suddenly double your inventory.
