ezPower / Re: Handling charge
« on: August 02, 2017, 10:10:35 AM »
Maybe I should be more specific.  For our shipping, I want to have one component of the shipping charge be the actual charge we have to pay to USPS or UPS, and the other component to be the shipping materials (we ship almost nothing but glass, so it has to be double boxed - so materials get pretty expensive).

I know I could just add an amount onto whatever UPS is going to charge us, but I was thinking that it might be kind of nice to itemize it for the customer - and be able to tell that the cashier has added the Materials expense.

My first inclination was to create a Product for the Materials, and charge that way.  But that Handling charge is just sitting there - for every single transaction - and not doing anything.  I thought maybe I could put it to use, but I'd need to be able to find the results of its use somewhere.

I'm just wondering about end-of-day reconciliation - to balance money in with charges made.  It's looking like I could have $1,000 charged to Handling for the day, and I can't find any report that addresses what that $1,000 was for.

I notice that Tax shows up automatically in a similar way during checkout.  I don't use it (we don't have Sales Tax), but I'd imagine the taxes collected would go into some report.  Is there something similar for Handling?

Along with revising how we handle Shipping charges, I'm considering the use of the Handling Charge that shows up with every transaction.  It appears pretty easy to use - just click on it to add a charge.

I'm wondering, though, how it's reconciled at the end of the day.  The money shows up on Sales Reports and Z-outs, but with no indication of what the money was for.

I realize that Handling is not exactly a "product", but I'm not sure how we'd use it if there's no sign of what it's total is at the end of the day.

Or am I missing something?

I for one am getting very tired of having to fix so many things after these Windows updates! I opted out of that "fast ring" last year so I could avoid the bugs!

Well, I checked the date format in Control Panel, and did change the "long date" format to "MMM D,yyyy" (short date was already "M/d/yyyy").  I rebooted, then verified in Control Panel to make sure it was changed to what I wanted.

The date format for Reports in EZP is still "d, M, yyyy" (digits only, and with commas rather than slashes).

I seems that no other area in EZP is affected.  In Product Control, the Date is still "M/d/yyyy".  In Sales Control, the Start and End Date fields are both "M/d/yyyy", as are the search results.  In the Sales Window, all transactions show up in the "M/d/yyyy" format.

The only place I can find this odd format ("d, M, yyyy") is in the "First Day" and "Last Day" fields of the Date Selection window for reports.  It shows up this way for every single report I've tried.  And it does not show up within any of the reports.

Ausad, I've just made sure that any user I do NOT want to use the Manger Control window has security access LESS than "Manager" level, i.e., "Cashier" or "Employee" or "Lowest".

If you currently have someone with status of "Manager" (as set in the Employee window), and you don't want them to mess around with how you have the Function buttons set up, I think you just need to move their status to anything below "Manager", rather than changing anything in the Security Control settings.

I just noticed in my newest version that the date comes up in an odd format when selecting a date range for reports:  "date, month, year".

That's how it shows up in the Date fields, anyway.  In the lower part of the Date Selection window, it shows up more like the old way, "month/date/year".

Not that it's unreadable, it just really throws me for a loop - especially for the first 12 days of each month.

Is there a way to adjust this?

When did you sneak that feature in there?  It works great - thanks!

I sure appreciate your willingness to pursue this.  I've filled out the spot on your site for Custom Work - it's very much worth it!

Wow, that looks great!

Indeed, the dimensional weight is what I'd have to enter, which wouldn't be a problem.

Just one thing - is there a way to enter weight values other than one at a time?  In Product Edit, there are scads of fields I can change easily, but I don't see weight in there.  Any ideas?

Thanks!

Well, I see three different fields currently in EZP that could be involved - the "weight" and "shipping" in Product Edit, and the "Handling" in the Sales window.  It looks like the "Handling" is just added manually during a sale.
It seems like the "shipping" is most likely what I've paid to have the item shipped to me (though I can't figure out how to get that to work, either).  It seems that the "weight" field could really be used only for calculating a shipping charge to someone purchasing the item.

So, if there would be some way that the total weight (I don't think individual weights being visible would be necessary) could show up at the time of transaction (and prior to payment), we'd have a relatively simple way of determining the shipping charge.  We have a nice "calculator" now that covers both UPS and USPS, and just have to enter zip and weight to get a solid estimate.  Then, as we do currently, we can have a Product for shipping that we use for the charge.

We'd need a way of bulk-entering the weights.  The way we can currently change an entire column in Product Edit is fantastic, and they'd probably need to be tweaked on occasion (the new "dimensional weight" system has a few variables that may not be evident at first).

Of course, some kind of system where the zip code is automatically tied to the weights and automatically spits out a shipping charge would be extremely nice, but with the way charges vary between shipper and change over time (not to mention the complexity of programming it, I'd imagine), it's hard to see that as being feasible.

I've always wondered about utilizing the Shipping and Weight fields for a product.  In experimenting, though, and using products where I've added data, I can't find anywhere else that it shows up.  Or is that only for Webgen?

I have to admit I hadn't ever used the Activity Log - looks like a great feature!

I like using both of these features - the "Margin Watch" and the "Out of Stock Warning".

Are there any reports at all that I can generate to see when these warnings have come up?  We have a procedure in place for handling them, but I'd really like to be able to know when they come up.  Reporting by staff is not always a guarantee.

Thanks!

Okay, so it's an option to require a customer name for specific items.  I thought it was maybe an option to require certain fields in the Customer information window to be filled in.

Thanks!

I just noticed that this is an added feature in v14.  Where do you access it?  I've been looking all over.
