But if I have a Star printer connected to print receipts, don't I need to have the driver for the Star printer chosen in the "file/choose receipt printer" settings?

So that's it?  I see there are a number of companies that make such cards - so I just have them printed the way you describe, and I can swipe them and EZP will track the dollar values and everything?

Thanks, Ronald.

ezPower / gift cards
« on: March 31, 2013, 12:43:24 PM »
First, I'm running ezPower Pro, v 13.511.

I'd like to start using gift cards.  I did a search on gift cards here and found general info on how they work, but I'd like to find how to get them.

Since our credit cards go through ChargeItPro and are integrated into EZP, I thought their gift cards might, too.  But no, it's only a standalone program they have for them.

So is there a gift card that's useable right within EZP?  We been using a paper version with numbers we can use in EZP that's been working, but I'd really like to use a magnetic strip card.

Thanks!

Yes, this was a real revelation.  It's worked fantastically for us!

The same thing DOES happen when printing to a printer.  I tried that right away (or my clerk did) and it went through the couple hundred sheets that were in the printer - and wanted more!

I can still save the reports that come out in .txt format - just not the ones that only go straight to printer.

Yes, EZ Power stays hung up as well.  Also, when I cancel the printing (close down the print windows), EZ Power stays locked up for a while, then closes.

I've done Windows updates (I run Windows 7), the Acrobat X update, but no others.  Is there an EZP update?

This used to happen on rare occassion, but a reboot would take care of it.

Thanks.

ezPower / Report Printing problem

I have EZP v.13.511.

I have Adobe Acrobat Standard X installed, and have been using it for quite a while to "print" my reports onto.  Lately, however, it's started printing into the thousands of pages, never stopping (until I stop it).  So I never get a pdf out of it.

I installed the latest Acrobat update, and try rebooting the computer, and keep getting the same results.  I also tried printing the reports to some other, "regular" printer, and get the same results.  So I think the problem is originating in EZP.

Again, though, I had been "printing" this way for months, with no problems at all.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

ezPower / Customer Receipts
« on: December 13, 2012, 06:25:58 PM »
Again, I have EZ POS 13.

If I'm shipping something to a customer, I presently use a copy of their Receipt to enter shipping info into the UPS or USPS software.

If I'm shipping something to another party, I have the "Packing Slip" set up to print out the "ship to" information.

Both have nice, complete name and address info for this - but no email address.  I find it very useful to have the tracking info emailed to the customer, which both UPS and USPS have the capability of doing.  Presently, I have to either manually write the email address on the receipt or refer to EZP for it at the time of printing the shipping labels - neither of which is exactly handy.

Is there - or could there be - any way to include a customer's email address on the receipt?

Thanks.

ezPower / "Customer Count" function
« on: December 13, 2012, 06:14:25 PM »
I have EZ POS 13, and am wondering about the "customer count" function.

I can get it onto the main Sales window, and get it to apparently record numbers.  But is there a way to see those numbers in a report or anywhere else in the system?

thanks!

I didn't end up waiting to see if it would go away.  I uninstalled, then re-installed the software, and haven't had any problems with it since.

ezPower / Re: Coupon-% help

I'm trying to grasp the difference in how "coupons" and "discounts" are used.

It seems that "coupons" can be applied as either a percentage or as a specific dollar amount - but only to an entire sale and not to an individual item.

And "discounts" can be applied as only a percentage and NOT a specific dollar amount - but to EITHER an entire sale OR to an individual item.

Other than that, is there some other basic difference in how the two work?  I like the flexibility it provides, I just need to get the terminology straight!

First, I humbly apologize for providing the information in my first post NOT for gmail, but for my web server.  No wonder it didn't work for you guys!

However, this will work with gmail - or at least it does on my system.  Rather than the setting I mentioned earlier, I used the following (bolding the parts that are different from my first post):

Name and Email Address:  self-explanatory
Authentication Method:  "Auth Login"
Username and Password:  self-explanatory
Outgoing Mail:  "smtp.gmail.com"
Port Number: 587
Auto Connect to Internet:  UNchecked
Bind to:  any ip address
Encoding:  Western European
Send all message MIME encoded:  checked
Send all messages as HTML:  checked

The differences for the outgoing mail server and port number weren't surprising, of course.  But, for some reason, the IP address that I could toggle on and off with "any ip address" in the "Bind to" field did not match the IP address of the computer I was using, so I left it on "any ip address".  That still didn't work, so I turned off the "auto-connect to internet" - and for some reason that worked!  Maybe Ronald could explain why!  :)

I think you guys will like that remote email feature.  Though the report is in .txt format and parts can be hard to read, you can get a feel for what's going on by just glancing at it (I have it going off every hour from my remote location), and if you want to make more sense of it (e.g., end of day), it can be easily converted to .csv or .xls format.

ezPower / Re: Payment Methods
« on: February 07, 2012, 12:05:59 PM »
Hey, I finally get it!

What I was thinking was that I needed to deal with Payment Methods somehow.  But instead, you apparently use products that essentially function as payment methods.

From there it was an easy matter to use the Gift Card function.  I created a product, and changed "sell" to "gift card", and named it "Gift Certificate".  I ask for the "price prompt" and "serial number prompt" at purchase.  It shows up in the Gift Card list real clearly.  At checkout, "gift card" is used as payment, the serial number is entered, and everything works out very nicely.  In the Z-Out Report, the Gift Certificate shows up as payment just the way I'd want.

The Donation works if I do a 100% off "coupon" (replacing the "sell" with "coupon %").  It works great at time of transaction, but there's a little less info on the Z-Out Report.  The item donated shows up with a $0 value, which makes sense, of course - but there's no indication of what might've happened to get it there.

I did some other experimenting with "coupons", and couldn't find how their use might be indicated somewhere at the end of the day.  Is there some report that'll show that?

Anyway, I'm thrilled to keep finding functions that I didn't expect to have!

ezPower / Re: credit card transactions
« on: February 06, 2012, 11:47:36 AM »
It seems that both times this happened, the program kind of "froze", and went into a shadowed/grayed out mode.  The clerk would then close the program, and when the program window closed, the credit card window would be revealed briefly, then close as well.  On re-opening the program, there would be the transaction, unpaid for.

The clerk admitted that she may have been swiping the card before the credit card window was fully open, and is now waiting a bit longer.  We've also decided to reboot the computer every morning on opening.

I'd appreciate any other suggestions on what we could do differently.

Thanks!

It must be v.13.

It seems that changing "sell" to "coupon" would have to be done item by item.  I'm looking for a way for a Gift Certificate to be able to be applied to ANY purchase.  Unless I'm misunderstanding, I'd have to essentially duplicate the entire inventory to have a "sell" and a "coupon" version for each item.  I'll have to research that some.

It looks like the "free" choice would be the most likely way to handle donations - I'm just fearful that someone will come in on behalf of that Customer for something to buy, and get it for "free" instead.

What I mean by "changing" payment types is to change the names of them.  I want to be as clear as possible to the clerks, so would like to use terminology that's consistent with what they're doing.  Some things (e.g., gift certificates) happen infrequently enough that they usually need some kind of cue (e.g., "checks/GC's") to remember which payment method to use.
