I am trying to load in my new product data into POS system
There are a few methods provided by the system eg.
Load/Save Inventory
Export List
Import/Export Inventory Basic
I tried Save/Load Inventory but modified records are missing after load
I tried Imp/Exp Inv Basic but some fields eg. Dept, Ctg, Location, etc are not included
Kindly advise

TQ

Load & Save Inventory should have all the information.

After reading the post again, I think the problem is you have to be very careful when using Excel.  Make sure to save as a Text file (tab delimited).  Excel can change the format of numbers also.  Set all the field formats to text.  Why are you using Excel, which fields are you changing?

Personally, I have yet to figure out how to use Load or Save Inventory.  There are just an awful lot of fields that don't make any sense to me.

I've used "Import Products (older version)" from the start (more than 5 years ago), and find it pretty straightforward.  It seems that I need to create both a .txt and .csv file for whatever I want to import, but that's no big deal.  And I have to match up column labels to get the data into the right fields, but that's no big deal, either.  It works consistently and predictably for me.

It made me a little nervous when it was given the "older version" label in v14.  I hope it's not being phased out or something - I'd be absolutely lost!

I tried load & save, and than i need to add some more item by excel or modified, so i don't have to add new by manual in POS, but it's not working. i have items that are very much, so i use excel in my own data item... when I move from excel and based on the column heading, save as txt also, there's no item show up.

If the fields are correct it will be loaded.  It's not safe to use Excel.  Do it at your own risk.

Hello Ronald,

We currently have our data in excel format
Does the system support uploading of data or we have to key in one by one ?
If it supports data upload, what is the best and safest way to do it and is there a limitation to what fields that can n cannot be uploaded ?
Kindly advise.

Thanks and regards,
Julie

I have used Excel in versions up to 2007 with success. I would recommend exporting the sample data and then examining it in Excel before you start assuming you know everything. It should make the data structure more apparent. When Importing, you do not have to import every field, only the ones that you need.

Peter has a good point - there will be data columns that you would've never dreamed of, and you'll only find them by doing an export of at least a small handful of items that you've entered all the info you can for.

1, Save a backup before doing anything.
2, From Excel save your products as a csv or tab delimited text file.
3, Open Product Control and select File / Import Products (Older Versions).
4, Check the CSV Format box for a csv format.
5, Use the Open button to select your text file.
6, In step 3 scan the file to see if the fields line up.  Click on the right "Field" column to align the fields to match your import order.
7, Step for use the Import button.
