Windows Updates / Network Setup
« on: May 17, 2018, 12:15:46 PM »
A common problem lately is Microsoft is changing the sharing settings with the updates.  This can effect your terminals from connecting to the host computer.  Which can also effect credit card processing on the terminals.

Credit Card Processing
If you are processing credit cards using ChargeItPro and have a network then you must also share the CIP folder just like the ezp folder.  The CIP folder is next to the ezp folder inside the DR14 folder.

Run the software on the server and press the Help button. Press the Database button.
A window will open. This is database location.
Right click on the “ezp” folder and select “Properties”. Click on Sharing.
Click on Advanced Sharing button.
Check Share this folder box.
Click on Permissions. Select Everyone and check Allow: Full control. – OK

Also, you may need to check your Network Status.  Open the windows Settings. Click on Network and Internet.  Click on Status (left side). Click on Change Connection Properties. Assuming you are on your own private network, select Private.

The file sharing may need to be turned on.  Here are some examples.

Windows 7: Open any folder and expose the Navigation Panel.  Open the Libraries / Documents.  You will see the DR14 folder here.

Windows 8: C:\Users\Public\Documents\DR14.

Right click on the “ezp” folder and select “Sharing and Security”.  Check the box “Share this folder on the network”.  Check the box “Allow network users to change my files”.

Continues...

Windows 10: C:\Users\Public\Public Documents\DR14.
Run the software on the server and press the Help button. Press the Database
button.
A window will open. This is database location.  You can exit the program.

Right click on the “ezp” folder and select “Properties”. Click on Sharing.
Click on Advanced Sharing button.
Check Share this folder box.
Click on Permissions. Select Everyone and check Allow: Full control. – OK -
OK again.

Click on the link “Network and Sharing Center”.
Under Guest or Public “Turn on network discovery” and “Turn on file and
printer sharing”.
Under All Networks “Turn on sharing...”, “Turn OFF password protected
sharing”.

Also, you may need to check your Network Status.  Open the windows Settings.
Click on Network and Internet.  Click on Status (left side). Click on Change
Connection Properties. Assuming you are on your own private network, select
Private.

The firewall/security software may also be blocking the "POS.exe" program.
If it still doesn't work try temporarily disabling the firewall and see if
that is the problem.

All Windows versions need to also:
Click on Advanced Sharing...   Check the box “Share this folder”.  Click on Permissions.  Select Everyone and check the box “Full Control”.  Click OK and OK.  Now in the ezp Properties window again click on the link “Network and Sharing Center”.  Under Guest or Public “Turn on network discovery” and “Turn on file and printer sharing”.  Open All Networks and “Turn on sharing...”, “Turn OFF password protected sharing”.

Tell me about it! ugh, GRRRRRRR!

So at the first store I was able to get them to share and see each other however at my 2nd store I cannot even get the computers to see one another.  It's very frustrating so we have been stuck with using just 1 of our 2 connected systems for sales.  Luckily in the past I've learned to make the regular cash register computer be computer #1 and the one we could live without be #2, so in the times where it can't connect to the Host computer we can still run the program, make sales and have the inventory work right.

So we basically use the main register #1 as our cash register computer and register #2 as our back office computer.  But if you've found any EASY instructions on sharing 2 computers LMK.  Home Group was so easy for me and they made it harder by trying to simplify it.  If I can write code I should be able to share 2 computers, GRRRRRRRR.

A new Windows update has a problem that slows down the WIFI / Network.  Microsoft knows about it and seems to be working on a fix. July 2019
