Importing Rental Items
« on: June 23, 2014, 07:06:40 AM »
I am trying to import my DVD Rental products.  The fields I am having trouble with are: Rent Price, Sell Mode, Rent Length and the Option of Out-of-stock Hold.  The record imports ok, but these fields remain blank.  I have 1500 movies, and I don't want to manually input these fields.

Thank you,
Tamara McCoy

What created the file that you are importing from?

I exported the data to an excel file, saved it as a .txt file to import it.

In Excel the rental fields are: AH (Rent Length), CV (Rent Price), AD (Sell Mode).

I don't understand how AH, CV and AD match up in ezP?  I tried a test record, inputting AH=Ask as Rent Length, CV=1.99 as Rent Price and AD=Ask as Sell Mode.  each of these fields remained blank. Also, I am at a loss as to how to enter the Option Out-of-stock Hold.

I did a test and here is what I got.  First is a regular sell product.  Second was a rent fixed price.  Third was a rent and ask for time length.  Using Excel you need to be careful.  The Excel fields must be set to general text.  Otherwise it can do unexpected things.  And make sure the file is not open in Excel when trying to do an export.  ezPower will not be able to update the file.

Sell Mode,   Rent Length,   Rent Price
1) 3,               0,                   10
2) 1,               1,                   10
3) 2,               1,                   10

I was able to get Sell Mode, Rent by day and Rent Length, Ask to work as you described.  When I enter 1.99 for Rent price, 1.00 is inserted into the product instead.  Following your example, I chose Options, 12 (for Out of stock, Hold), but Service, Discontinued gets checked and when I tried and Options, 13, Hide from WebGen get checked but never Out of stock Hold? I have made sure that all fields are set to general text.

Import and export are intended for transferring products.  It's not designed for manual editing.  Many of the settings are combined into one field.  What are you wanting to do?

I have 1500 movies, all of which need Out-of-stock Hold checked on them.

Yikes!  I'm going to have a menu function added to the Change All that will do this.

I'm sending you an update.  In the Product Control use the Change All menu, the last function.

Thank you for the Out of Stock Hold option, it works great!  Is there any possibility to do the same for Rent Price and Late Fee?  I can't import the Late Fee and for some reason Rent Price ($1.99) imports as $1.00.  FYI, I have verified that the Rent Price is listed in the .txt file as 1.99 and all fields are formatted as text.
Thanks,
Tamara
