ezPower / Import of Inventory on new version
« on: September 13, 2013, 12:30:58 PM »
I just updated to the new version of ezPower (network) this past month (v. 13.758).  After my experience this morning, I was wondering if I can get some kind of summary of the changes since the previous version.

What I did was export the product file into a spreadsheet, made corrections in discount levels, change all stock quantities to zero (as I've always done, or the inventory will double!), and re-imported the file.

Well, what a shock when my entire inventory was at zero!  Then I remembered that there was a new button in the import function for "add quantities" or something.  I figured everything would work the same as usual if I just left all the new buttons alone, but that's not the case.

Anyway, it's all fixed now and all that, but I'd really like to avoid running into something like this again.  It seems like a list of updates would be the best/easiest way to avoid these surprises in the future.

(By the way, this change for the inventory quantities is a great idea - I usually forgot to zero the stock numbers before!)

Thanks.

ezPower / Problem in Reports
« on: September 07, 2013, 10:12:12 AM »
I just generated my monthly "Products/Sold Products Detail" for August consignment items, and ran into an issue I haven't seen before.  Many of the Categories do not match the Products.  The Price, Cost and Artist in each Product seem correct, just not the Category.  Plus, most of these mis-matches seem to show Categories that were never associated with the Product.

I have moved some Categories around this past month, by using the "Change" function.  That's always worked with no problem before.  The dates for the sales where this has happened seem to at least roughly coincide with the time I did the changing - i.e., the mis-matches appear before that time, and they're all correct after it.

The Product database at present is correct in terms of Products and Categories.

Is there something like a re-indexing function that I can run?  Something else?

I have the Network version of ezPower POS, v. 13.758, and also ran the most recent update during this time frame.

Thanks!

ezPower / Change Category
« on: August 26, 2013, 05:47:31 PM »
I'm running EZ POS network version, and, as of last week, v. 13.757.

In the Products section, I've used the "change" function a lot in the past.  It's been a great feature!

Somehow, though, with this newer version, I can't get the "change category" function to work right.  I get all the items I want to change into the new category, all right, but I also still have them in the old category!!

They are identical items, including the item #'s.   I don't think it's supposed to work like that, anyway.

It looks like there are some real changes in the version, so I'm wondering if I might be missing a step.

thanks!

ezPower / Network version question
« on: April 09, 2013, 05:28:55 PM »
I'm using v 13.514 of ezPower - Network (I've had it for a while, but just started using it this past month when we added a 2nd register).

Everything seems to work fine - as long as Register #2 is connected to the network.  It seems to disconnect a few times during the day, though - and, of course, causes some problems then.

I know how to tell on the server whether there's a problem with the connection - but it would probably be most helpful to be able to tell on the second terminal - before a transaction that ends up being a problem is entered.

Also, is there a way to permanently enter the network path on that second terminal so I might not have to go through all the steps each time I want to re-connect them?

Thanks!

ezPower / gift cards
« on: March 31, 2013, 12:43:24 PM »
First, I'm running ezPower Pro, v 13.511.

I'd like to start using gift cards.  I did a search on gift cards here and found general info on how they work, but I'd like to find how to get them.

Since our credit cards go through ChargeItPro and are integrated into EZP, I thought their gift cards might, too.  But no, it's only a standalone program they have for them.

So is there a gift card that's useable right within EZP?  We been using a paper version with numbers we can use in EZP that's been working, but I'd really like to use a magnetic strip card.

Thanks!

ezPower / Report Printing problem
« on: March 24, 2013, 12:19:46 PM »
I have EZP v.13.511.

I have Adobe Acrobat Standard X installed, and have been using it for quite a while to "print" my reports onto.  Lately, however, it's started printing into the thousands of pages, never stopping (until I stop it).  So I never get a pdf out of it.

I installed the latest Acrobat update, and try rebooting the computer, and keep getting the same results.  I also tried printing the reports to some other, "regular" printer, and get the same results.  So I think the problem is originating in EZP.

Again, though, I had been "printing" this way for months, with no problems at all.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

ezPower / Customer Receipts
« on: December 13, 2012, 06:25:58 PM »
Again, I have EZ POS 13.

If I'm shipping something to a customer, I presently use a copy of their Receipt to enter shipping info into the UPS or USPS software.

If I'm shipping something to another party, I have the "Packing Slip" set up to print out the "ship to" information.

Both have nice, complete name and address info for this - but no email address.  I find it very useful to have the tracking info emailed to the customer, which both UPS and USPS have the capability of doing.  Presently, I have to either manually write the email address on the receipt or refer to EZP for it at the time of printing the shipping labels - neither of which is exactly handy.

Is there - or could there be - any way to include a customer's email address on the receipt?

Thanks.

ezPower / "Customer Count" function
« on: December 13, 2012, 06:14:25 PM »
I have EZ POS 13, and am wondering about the "customer count" function.

I can get it onto the main Sales window, and get it to apparently record numbers.  But is there a way to see those numbers in a report or anywhere else in the system?

thanks!

ezPower / credit card transactions
« on: February 04, 2012, 01:53:29 PM »
We've had a couple situations now where a credit card transaction has gone through - i.e., shows up in Charge It Pro - but does NOT print a receipt or register as being paid in EZP.

The first time, I just got to hear about it second-hand.  Nothing happened the first time, so the clerk swiped it again and ended up with two charges.  I had the clerk call Charge It Pro and they straightened it out.

This time I got to look at the Sales Window after the first attempt at swiping.  Again, it ended up being recorded in the Charge It Pro client, but in the Sales Window, the transaction shows up as Open (i.e., not paid for).  I "closed" it by just using cash.

Anyway, I'm wondering how this might be prevented.  I hate leaving the clerks with the Charge It Pro login to be able to check whether a charge has really gone through or not.

Thanks!

ezPower / Payment Methods
« on: January 30, 2012, 08:43:01 AM »
I have the General Retail, latest version (10?) of EZP.

This is actually a two-part question, but the parts are similar.  I'm looking for a good way to handle Gift Certificates that I handle, as well as Donations that I give to charitable groups.

First, it seems that either case would require finding the appropriate Payment Method.  I want to be able to handle either situation just like any other transaction - to both keep them on the books, and to be able to adjust inventory as I go along.

However, it seems that most Payment Methods are fixed, either working as the standard Cash, Check or Credit Card - or for some external application that works with EZP.  I thought that the "Gift Card" might work, but apparently only with external software.  Then I thought "Food Stamps" or "Undef 18" might work if renamed, but I run into the same thing there.

Is there possibly a way of either adding a new Payment Method, or duplicating an existing one, e.g., "Cash" or "Check"?  And then just renaming them?  I suppose I could "share" one of them, e.g., rename "Check" to appear as "Check/GC" - but I'd rather keep them separate for sake of bookkeeping.

And for Donations, I suppose I could go into the Customer info and use Levels, renaming "Free" to "Donations" - but it seems that I'd rather handle them just by single transactions.

How has anyone else handled these?

Thanks!

ezPower / adjust quantity
« on: January 07, 2012, 04:40:22 PM »
This sounds like such a basic question, but here goes:  How do I change the quantity of an item being rung up?

The only way I can presently find is to use the "Edit" function.  That does change the quantity, but on the Z-out report, there's a quantity of "1" assigned, no matter how many were sold.

In the Help manual, it mentions a "Quantity" button (the one with the spiraling numbers icon) that looks like it's supposed to be in the Functions I can add to that Sales Screen Toolbar - but I see no such function in my list of possibilities.

For now I'm reduced to using the "Duplicate" function for as many items as I'm selling, which is sometimes a little cumbersome.

Thanks for any advice!

ezPower / Printing Reports
« on: January 03, 2012, 05:49:59 PM »
First, my label printer and receipt printers work just fine for all the usual functions.  And for many of my reports, I use my Acrobat "printer" to make a pdf, and that works great.

However, whenever I've tried printing my "Adjust Stock" reports lately, something seems to go haywire.  I found it first when trying to use my receipt printer for that report - I got multiple pages (a few yards worth), consisting only of the store name heading.  I shut the printer down, rather than wait to see whether it would print something else.

I've also tried it with the Acrobat printer, and it more or less freezes up while loading all the pages - I've seen it up to as many as 32,000 pages that it says it will print!

Anyway, with whatever printer, EZ POS freezes up and I have to shut it down and loose the entries I've made.  It works fine when I start it up again, but I still can't print the report I need.

Any suggestions?

(by the way, I COULD print the report successfully just a couple weeks ago!)

Thanks!

ezPower / "Generic Exception"
« on: November 11, 2011, 05:25:01 PM »
I have the network version of EZ 13 on a Windows 7 64-bit pc.  I have the cashier pc set up as the server, and the office pc set up as the client (in case of network trouble, wanted to make sure the customers could still be taken care of).

It's worked fine all day (just set it up yesterday), until I went in to edit a product on the client pc.  I kept getting a message when trying to finalize the edit that I wasn't connected to the "product database" (or something to that effect) - and was asked if I wanted to make the edited product into a new product.  I did not, so I cancelled it.

After doing this twice, I thought it might be the network not working.  I couldn't get the "connect" function to work (though I could access the network through Windows Explorer), so I decided to exit EZ and re-open it.

When I tried to open it, I get the normal opening screen for a moment, followed by an error message of "Generic Exception", with "OK" as the only button.  On clicking that, the error message and the program both close.

This happens every time I try now, even after rebooting.

The program on the server still seems to work fine.  What can I do?

Thanks!  (BTW, I think this is an excellent program!)

ezPower / Practice Mode
« on: November 10, 2011, 11:27:06 AM »
Is there a "practice mode" available for training new users?

I thought about just using the demo version, but I think I'd prefer the training with the setup they'll actually be using.

Thanks!
