ezPower / Sales vs. Products reports
« on: December 16, 2016, 10:21:25 AM »
I'm on v14 network version, and am trying to pin down the best way of exporting sales data from EZP to my accounting software (Xero).  I'm able to do it in .csv format, so that leaves me with a lot of options.

The report that seems to come closest to what I want is the  Products: Sold Products Detail report.  The one drawback in that report, though, is an apparent inability to account for split transactions.  The Pay Method column (brought up with the "Payment Type" option) only displays one of the pay types and only the total sales amount in a split transaction, which leads to a fair amount of manual intevention after the export/import.

But in the Sales: Sales Detail report, the Pay Method column is also available (though by using what's called the "Payment" option), but describes a split transaction perfectly - each pay method is displayed, along with the dollar amount for each.

Being able to clearly show the split transactions almost makes it worth going to the Sales Detail report, but then I'd lose all the other info available in Sold Products Detail - and I've really enjoyed being able to export all of that so easily.  And I'm aware that I could generate both reports for each time period, but it seems that would be a step backward.

So my question is whether it's at all possible to make the Pay Method column the same in each report (i.e., to appear as it does in Sales Detail), or is it intended to vary by report?

Thanks!

ezPower / Edit/Void problems
« on: November 26, 2016, 01:21:26 PM »
I originally had this under a previous, existing subject, but thought it different enough to start a new thread.

To finish a Layaway/Deposit, we have always used Edit to take the final payment.  When we go back to these transactions for final payment, the Finish button is grayed out, and the only way I've ever figured out how to accept payment is by using Edit.  If the intention is to have the cashier go into the Customer, Advanced Payment window to do it, that really adds more complexity for the cashier than I'd like.

Over the last few months, though, pretty much every time we try such an Edit, we get the message "open in another computer".   We never have it open in another computer but almost always get that message.  I've been meaning to ask about it, but now it's happening virtually every time we try an Edit.

Our procedure was to use Find Sale, then search for the Customer name, then open the transaction.  It had been fairly rare that we'd get the "open in another computer" message.  When that didn't work, we'd use Find Sale, and enter the Receipt #.  Surprisingly, that often worked (i.e., no error message) when the first method did not.

Over the summer, we were getting "the message" something like 50-75% of the time, and now just about every time - and neither previous method is working now.  We always get the "open in another computer" message.  I've had to go into the Manager section, then Sales, to Edit or Void anything, but I hate to have to be directly involved every time this happens, and I also hate the idea of allowing anyone else in that area (yes, even I deleted ALL sales one time!).  And, invariably, it's when the customer is standing there waiting.

If we just added a new transaction, wouldn't we pretty much have to delete the original - and do it before we accept payment to know what the balance really is? (there's usually been a Deposit made.)

Thanks for your help!

ezPower / Merge Customer Names?
« on: May 19, 2016, 11:25:29 AM »
I haven't been able to find a way to do this, so I'm hoping that either I'm missing something or that maybe it could be done in the future.

It's inevitable that someone will create a second entry for a customer (i.e., resulting in both a "Dave" and "David").  From then on it's anybody's guess as to which name new sales will go under.  And deleting one of them will, of course, delete their sales history as well.

In past experience, I've been able to do a Customer Merge, so that all transactions are retained.  Is this possible?

ezPower / Sales Detail Report
« on: March 22, 2016, 11:46:27 AM »
Hi Ronald,

The Sales Detail Report has been great in generating a report for the day to accompany the export to QB.  There's just one thing I was wondering.

When you select the fields you want to show up in the report, the "Payment" choice is the closest one I can find to Payment Method.  And when the report is generated, that column is titled, "Pay Method".  However, the values that appear are BOTH the "Pay Method" AND the "Total Payment".

I already have a column chosen for Total Payment, so is there a way to have only the Pay Method itself appear in the Pay Method column?  I was trying to get this into csv format for import to somewhere, and having both values in the column kind of gums things up.

Thanks!

ezPower / Sales Export to Quickbooks
« on: March 02, 2016, 08:34:21 AM »
The Sales Export has been working extremely well, though I'll admit that the transactions have been pretty straightforward so far.

I did run across one issue lately, though, in that a Layaway was exported as a normal, paid transaction.  I looked at the iif file in Excel, and it looks indistinguishable from the other transactions.  Is this kind of thing just something I need to take care of manually?

Thanks.

ezPower / Discounts by dollar amount
« on: March 01, 2016, 10:23:32 AM »
I thought I'd seen this in here somewhere, but I can't find it now.

In v14, one of the features is listed as discounting by dollar amount as well as %.  There must be a specific discount button for this - which one is it?

thanks.

ezPower / Payment Methods, Sales Imports
« on: February 23, 2016, 08:01:05 AM »
We have sales on our website as well as in the physical store.  So far, I've run the online credit card transactions manually through EZP, but we're changing over to a payment gateway (mainly for PCI reasons).

However, many of our online customers are also store customers, so I'd still like to enter their online transactions into EZP to maintain all our sales records in one place.

So far, the one hurdle that has me stumped is how to address the Payment Method for such a transaction.  Is there possibly a Payment Method available - or that could be set up - to signify that payment has been made outside of EZP so I could continue to track such sales there?

Another thought that comes up, though not as important, is whether I might even be able to import a .csv file summarizing a sales transaction from an outside program into EZP.  I see that there's a way of importing and exporting sales info in Sales Control, or is that to import solely from another EZP setup?

Thanks!

ezPower / Shipping Cost in Product Edit file
« on: February 18, 2016, 11:02:07 AM »
I've been intrigued by the field of "+Shipping" in the Product file, thinking that I could maybe just add the cost of shipping the product to the cost to calculate the retail price.

However, any value I enter for "+Shipping" doesn't seem to affect anything else - or at least I can't find anywhere where it does.

What exactly does that Shipping field do?

ezPower / Product Export in v14
« on: February 18, 2016, 10:55:13 AM »
So far, I've been able to do simple Product Export in v14 by using the Export List feature under File. Now, though, I want to do a bulk change of the Product information on one of the more obscure options (change to "Service" to no longer track inventory on some items).

In v13, I was able to export quite a detailed spreadsheet of Product data, but in v14 the choices have changed to:

  - Export Inventory Basic (I have no clue what to do with that info, and in the words that I do recognize, I can't find anything like "service")

  - Export Inventory XML (nothing happens, and I have no idea where any data goes), or

  - Export List (which gives me only the columns that are able to appear in the general Products window (which does not include "Service")

In the description of new features for v14, it states "an easier way of exporting product data".  I'm guessing it might be referring to the "Basic" - is there some way of translating that into a normal spreadsheet?

Thanks!

ezPower / Return function
« on: February 10, 2016, 03:40:22 PM »
I have v14.187, network version.

I prefer that we do returns by entering the receipt number, and this usually works fine.  But for some reason, there are occasions when absolutely nothing shows up in the sales window.

When it doesn't work, we are able to work around that by clicking on "no receipt", but I'd prefer to not do that.

Is there something we should be doing differently?

ezPower / Advanced Payment Window
« on: January 12, 2016, 09:59:11 AM »
There have been a number of times when we need to look up a customer's purchase history.  It seems that the best way to do this (for any further back than a month or so) is to go into the Customer Edit window, then the Advanced Payment window.  We usually have to click "show all invoices", then see a nice list of past transactions.

My question regards the choices there - you seem to have to PRINT it out somewhere - no option to SAVE it, no option to just VIEW it.  I'm usually checking to see if it's the transaction I'm looking for, so it's kind of a hassle to keep printing them out until I find the right one.  Also, as with the reports, I'm usually at some other terminal and have no good choice other than to print it to pdf, at which time EZP seems to usually shuts down.

Is it possible to just have a window pop up with the information?

Thanks!

ezPower / Reports by Department
« on: October 30, 2015, 11:07:32 AM »
I use the "Category-By Product" a lot, and really like the functionality of it.

I've always been searching for a similar report that would give me "Department-by Category".  I don't need (or want) the individual products sold, just the Category totals.

Something like the "Category-Summary" comes the closest to giving the data I'm looking for.  It would be about perfect if it was in the same format as most of the other reports.  But that "long, narrow column" format is not easy to use for comparative purposes, and there far too many Categories for the chart to be useful.

And I know I could get the information from the "Products-Sold Products Detail" by exporting and manipulating the data, but I've been hoping for something quicker.

Is there a report that I'm missing?

ezPower / "one item per line" in General Settings
« on: August 15, 2015, 10:25:05 AM »
I'd like to NOT use the "one item per line" setting, since some of our receipt tapes get awfully long that way.

HOWEVER, I use the Z-out report to enter quantities sold into Quickbooks, and when I unclick the "one line per item" setting, I only get a quantity of each unique line item sold, and not the actual quantity of items overall.

For example, if I have the "one line per item" box checked, and sell 100 red vases of the same price, I get a 5-foot long receipt tape, but at least an accurate quantity of "100" on the z-out report.  If I DON"T have that box checked, I get a reasonably-size receipt tape, but then only a quantity of "1" on the z-out report!

For various reasons, I'm not interested in seeing the number of line items of transactions I've had for the day, I need to be able to see the actual number of items I've sold.

Isn't there some of separating my choices of how the transactions are recorded from how the z-outs are generated?

Thanks!

ezPower / new credit card devices
« on: July 15, 2015, 07:38:41 AM »
Hi Ronald,

Being a Chargeitpro customer (for my credit card processing), I'm starting to get more literature on the new credit card readers we'll need to have.  The first concrete example of one is the PAX S80, which I got a mailing about today.  It certainly looks like it would do anything I'm going to need it to do, but it also seems that there's some redundancy with what I already have set up with EZP.

Are you going to be recommending any such hardware to be used with EZP?  I checked out the Denver Research site, and see only the magnetic card readers.

Thanks!

ezPower / "Hour of Week" report
« on: October 19, 2013, 10:54:11 AM »
The "Hour of Week" report has be very valuable to me ("Hour of Day" as well, but not quite to the same extent).  However, to really do what I want, I need some way to get it into .csv or .xls format  (presently I'm transferring the data by hand into Excel, which isn't very efficient - especially if I'm looking at various time ranges).

I seem to come close in the "Sales" reports, then "Sales by Hour" - but that seems to be just for one day.

Is there any function in EZP that will do that?

Thanks!
