Title: online lottery tickets
Post by: tottenham on March 24, 2017, 09:44:34 AM
hi,
i'm a new user on V14 (SIX WEEKS), loving a lot of the features that i didn't have on my previous epos. One function i am missing is scanning online lottery tickets which have variable barcodes depending on how much they cost etc. It looks like i could use the embedded barcode function but i'm not that clued up on how to do it. Do you have any thoughts or guidance.
thanks

I'm not familiar with how the lottery barcode works and have not heard of anyone using the embedded function for it.

hi
the principle is similar to using weight in embedded barcodes.
they start with digits 20 then a 5 digit code to describe the item and have the price as a four digit figure.
i have tried using then embedded feature but i keep getting the wrong multiply of the price. for example a single £2.50 ticket is multiplied by some of the barcode figure to make the ticket cost £375+ rather than £2.50.
in the help book it states the when using the weigh in embedded you have to enter other information. this is the part i'm having trouble with.
below are barcodes from the £2.00 lottery tickets:

2083801812001      6 LINES @ £2.00 A LINE  (£12.00 ticket)
2083801404008       2 LINES @ £2.00 A LINE  (£4.00 ticket)
2083801202000       1 LINE @ £2.00 A LINE    (£2.00 ticket)

An update....Following from my previous posts by going to manager>settings>printer and equipment, then clicking on UPC. i have entered the settings which work for me and when i scan my barcode on check upc it works perfectly. however when i go back to the main sales screen and scan the barcode (or even enter it manually ) it doesn't register it. any suggestions pleeeeease.
thanks

hi
i have tried it with three different barcodes and they all work in "check upc" but not on sales screen.
2083801404008
2 being the lead digit
083801 being 6 digit item
4 don't know what this is but i "unchecked the omit price check sum V" box
0400 being price using all four digits
8 being a digit that barcodes need to confirm that is has been read. ( i think )

hope that helps

All the digits are read.  Your barcode seems to have an extra digit.  Your 2083801404008 barcode would be broken out like this:

2 - Format
083801 - Item#
4 ??? Extra digit, would cause it to fail.
0400 - Price
8 - Check sum.  This has to calculate correctly.

Excluding the extra "4" character, this barcode would appear as "083801" is the UPC field in our database.
Edit: I fixed the UPC.  It should be 083801

We sell lottery tickets also. What I did was make up a product --Keno for $1. Then for THAT product I scan the barcode into the POS under the upc code box. Go back to sales screen and scan the code and it comes up Keno   $1.00 no tax I had to do that for ALL the different lottery products. Once it is in the system its easy to put new one's in when the lottery comes up with something new.

hi
thanks for your reply.
are you saying that i should change my upc code from 2083801 to 083801 ?
the 2083801 product is set up in the database with the item code as 2083801 and the UPC the same.

thanks

If you put ALL your lottery products under the (department) of (lottery) it will show up on the sales screen. If you have a touch screen this makes it very easy and quick to do lottery sales.

If you are still having problems I have got a working solution.  I have found that your example UPC works with the extra "4" character if you use the Embedded V option.

The update that seems to work for Lottery is to use the option Total is embedded.  The update now looks at the database price.  If the product price in the database is set to zero the software knows to set the price and extended total to the embedded total and the quantity is set to one.
If the product price is not zero then it set's the quantity to the embedded total / price.

thanks for the update all lottery seems to be working fine. i do have one further issue that has arisen, one of my other suppliers is using a barcode starting with 20. Since i've 'Activated' the UPC function these items don't scan or register on the sales screen when i select from their category . is there anything i can do ?
thanks
(its only a handful of products)

I'd need more information?  Is it a different format?  Is there some reason?

hi ,
sorry yes they are a totally different product  (chilled meat & pies ).
their barcodes are in this format.
examples
2033863001769
2033850001697
2033880001193

there is no price or value information encoded in the barcode, they are  just a barcodes.
they all worked fine until i activated the UPC and because they start with a 2 and a zero the system thinks it should be looking for a value in their i assume

So, they start with 2 and are the same number of digits?  The only option is change their barcode to something that doesn't start with 2.

you are a marvel , those products all scan fine now.
there is a slight slight weird scenario. i checked a couple of lottery tickets after to see if the lottery would still work, and yes it did but if i scan the following to barcodes by themselves they are fine, and read the correct amount ion the ticket. if i scan them one after the other in the same transaction the first scan is fine but the 2nd reads the wrong value of the ticket .
2083801404008  (this is a £4 ticket )
2083801812001  ( this is a £12 ticket )

Are you using the "One Item Per Line" option?  That needs to be checked under the Options tab.
