Is there a report to show you when and how much, a payment has been made by a customer. ie if i make a new payment of £20 into my account to put it in credit, where could i see that as being recorded say a couple of weeks later

Try these reports:

Customer / Balance
Customer / Statement

The Payment window in the Customer Control.

customer payments shows you sales but not actual payments made to put you in credit.customer balance shows you  sales and at the end your balance and only for "this month". i just need it for any queries that may come up to show when and how much a payment in was made and on what date

You can use the Sales / Sales Information window from the sales screen.
